Scott Weiland: Doing What He Wants To Do (And Finally, It’s Not Heroin)

November 6th, 2008 by Johnny Firecloud in Reviews

Washed up rocker drowning in his own excess? A middle-aged Axl disciple gone astray? One of the last great rock stars? Whatever you call him, Scott Weiland is a chameleon of many shades, and proves it in spades with Happy In Galoshes, his second solo effort.

Despite being a notorious slave to the vein and having been fired from two chart-topping, Grammy-winning, platinum-selling bands for being a fuckup and a diva, the serpentine vocalist marches onward with the cocky swagger of John Holmes at a nude beach. As usual, it suits him well.

Celebrity Trainwreck Cagematch

October 29th, 2008 by Skwerl in Features

I’m so going to hell for this one… But like laughing at retarded people, sometimes you just can’t help it. I’ve been hearing about original Guns N’ Roses drummer Steven Adler’s ‘performance’ on the new season of Celebrity Rehab…

Get the Flash Player to see the wordTube Media Player.

I finally got around to hitting YouTube, and you know what… It’s not really that funny. It’s sad. The obvious question had crossed my mind: Is it worth some commentary on Antiquiet? And, well, by itself, no it isn’t. But there’s been so much talk about it- maybe not on music sites, but around the nation’s water coolers, and on the radio- yet, Steven Adler was not the biggest human spectacle this week. At least not in my opinion. Check out these two competing disasters, and tell us what you think.

Everything Would Be Better If It Sounded Like Bronx III

October 22nd, 2008 by Johnny Firecloud in Reviews

Here at Antiquiet, we don’t mince words about our hot love for The Bronx. The LA-based hardcore punk unit is just a few weeks away from unveiling their third self-titled LP (aka Bronx III), and the scene is set quite a bit differently than for Bronx II (2006). In addition to lineup changes and added official appendages, they’ve toured relentlessly since their last release and have the near-telepathic chops to prove it.

We were lucky enough to get our greasy little paws on an advance copy of Bronx III, and there’s certainly no garbage here; it’s all listenable, and about as close to a flawless record as I’ve heard all year.

The United States Of America Vs. Me

September 2nd, 2008 by Skwerl in Editorials

Hi everyone. As you are all undoubtedly aware, I was arrested at gunpoint last Wednesday by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and I am now facing a federal criminal charge by the United States Government of copyright infringement, after allegedly hosting a stream of 9 Guns N’ Roses songs, for a brief period of time in June.

As a result, many old friends, new enemies, creepy strangers and reporters have been cramping my style; Asking questions, offering to help, threatening to injure / kill me, wishing me luck, wishing that I rot in jail for the rest of my life, hiding in my bushes, et cetera.

The United States Of America Cares A Lot About Democracy

August 27th, 2008 by Britney Bernstein in Editorials

Axl Rose didn’t call the FBI, but today it became more than obvious that someone really was serious about that threat. Johnny and I sat on a pew in the U.S. District Court building in Downtown L.A. as Skwerl sat behind glass, in handcuffs, and still in his jammies since the FBI arrested him at 6:59 this morning.

After five or so other cases were presented, the United States of America presented her case against Skwerl. The proceeding was mostly about what his bail was going to be set at. The U.S.A. requested bail be set at $50,000. Skwerl’s court-appointed attorney thankfully called B.S. on that one and recommended his bail be $5,000 and that this case is the kind of case where the defendant should have been summoned to appear instead of being accosted by five F.B.I. agents at his home in a quiet neighborhood.
