One Band’s Sexy Trash Is Another Man’s Treasure

November 10th, 2008 by Johnny Firecloud in Reviews

The Electric Six show in Los Angeles Friday night was, as expected, a sizzling sex-rock love affair. The band was in top form, rocking in their special Electric way that’s made us such rabid fans here at Antiquiet.

The show was epic, it was awesome, and it lived up to my previous description of them as ’supreme champions of everything unholy and awesome about rock n’ roll.’

But enough about that. The real gem of the evening was my merch-table discovery of a CD called Sexy Trash, a 30-track collection of odds, ends, b-sides and interludes available exclusively at a club near you when Electric Six rolls through on their Hittin’ The Walls And Workin’ The Middle tour. The songs cover the band’s 11-year career, and a brief description of each song from lead singer Dick Valentine is included on the back.

Electric Six Is Flashy And Delicious

I’m not going to bullshit you. This is, in all likelihood, the most biased review you’ll ever read. I’m fine with that, and you should be too, because Electric Six are supreme champions of everything unholy and awesome about rock n’ roll. If you’re not on the train already, it’s time you got on board.

Together, this sextet of hearty cocksmen rewrite the periodic table of party rock. They cause photosynthesis at night. They are ridiculous refined, a wide-eyed, sex-charged disco-metal beast, voracious for that sacred cow.

They are Electric Six, and they just finished their fifth album. It’s called Flashy, and it’s a dynamite bacchanal of the highest order.

An Interview With The Record Industry, Uncensored

July 8th, 2008 by Skwerl in Features

A couple of weeks ago, I responded to an interview request from London-based Record Of The Day. They publish a digest of music industry news, in PDF format. These weekly newsletters go out to paid subscribers only- not casual jerkoffs, but industry insiders who have a tangible interest in the content. It was an email interview, so I considered it a perfect opportunity to voice my opinions on (and concern for) the music industry in a greater depth than I’ve done so far here, and be sure that it would make it into the ears of the people who might actually be able to do something constructive with the insight.

What I’m posting here today is the uncut version, as I delivered it. I find it interesting that a particularly damning paragraph- on how a certain major record distribution company dropped the ball- was cut from the published version. I put a little red box around it. There was a large amount of dead, blank space after my interview, so I can’t imagine it was to save paper.

Gettin’ Dicked: Antiquiet Interviews Dick Valentine Of Electric Six

February 14th, 2008 by Johnny Firecloud in Interviews

Electric Six rose to power in 2001, setting fire to the disco with their song Danger! High Voltage. Since then, they’ve develped a cult following with their flair for clever lyrics, catchy tunes, on-stage aerobics and bizarrely awesome videos. In short, Electric Six are ridiculous refined.
They have a relentless work ethic, writing and releasing roughly an album a year, then embarking on marathon tours to promote them. They recently finished touring the globe in support of their fourth album, I Shall Exterminate Everything Around Me That Restricts Me From Being The Master. Despite the fact that I Shall Exterminate… was released only five months ago, the boys are already back in the studio, working on album number five.
We caught up with frontman, songwriter and weirdo extraordinaire Dick Valentine to discuss the new album, the Lenny Kravitz effect and dreams of wine and cheese with Montana sorority girls.
