Studio Reports:  Local H

Local H Set to Release Double Album ‘Hallelujah! I’m A Bum’ in September

By Reverend Justito

While many have no doubt written them off as a one hit wonder, Local H has quietly floated below the radar releasing outstanding records for nearly twenty years. On September 18th the hard rocking duo is set to release a brand new double album Hallelujah! I’m A Bum via Slimstyle Records.

To celebrate the release, Scott Lucas and Brian St. Clair have released a video that features a glimpse into a recording process as the hard-rocking new track Night Flight to Paris plays in the background. The song is everything you would expect from Local H; hard hitting drums, a wall of detuned guitars and front man Scott Lucas’ signature snarl. You can check it out for yourself down below.

Hallelujah! I’m A Bum will feature 17 brand new tracks. Lucas has mentioned that a dog theme runs throughout the album, making it a fitting companion to the band’s widely praised 1998 concept album Pack Up the Cats. Hallelujah! will tackle the deeply divided political climate that exists in the U.S. and around the world, using the Windy City as a backdrop to sardonically comment on how this polarization personally impacts people. From the El-train inspired “Blue Line,” in which Lucas sings “It’s getting hard to realize / A sense of self in other eyes / It’s us and them” to “Another February,” which uses the city’s brutal winters to paint a picture of anxious desperation within a family to the Peter Gun-riff of “Paddy Considine,” a song that mocks middle-aged Travis Bickles and the hotheaded “conspiracy of toughs” roaming the streets of his hometown’s neighborhoods, the album examines how the national political discord affects people within their communities, their neighborhoods and even within their relationships.

…and then the world collective sighed because no one gave a fuck. The End.

Good to see some H coverage on Antiquiet. Their last album was great.

Ha ha – I give a fuck – cause I love hard rock. Local H’s albums: As Good as Dead and Whatever Happened to PJ Soles were awesome. Those albums stand up to the best of Fu Manchu (The action is Go and California Crossing), QOTSA (Rated R, S/T, etc.), and Clutch (S/T, Blast Tryant). So, Virgil if you haven’t checked them out you can thank Antiquiet (and me!) for making this hot summer that much better!! :) This teaser video sounds like Local H hasn’t lost a step. Much like the 2011 release from Urge Overkill they are still ‘killin’ it too.

Aren’t these guys from Philly? I can never remember. But I wrote them off for ages, and am only now listening up, due to the one-hit-wonder tag. Oops. My bad. They aren’t too shabby. 2 man bands are rad.

Scott Lucas is from Zion Illinois as was their old drummer. Not sure where Brian is originally from but they still claim the state of Illinois as home.
