With a campaign aimed at unreleased music from the archives, a wave of collectors’ box sets and remastered studio recordings are being launched, the harbingers of the psychedelic sound accompaniments of our youth are looking to saturate the music-buying public once again. A comprehensive release schedule is planned, encompassing CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray discs, SACD, an array of digital formats, iPhone Apps and a brand-new single-album ‘Best Of’ collection.

The legendary band, who are still among the most successful and iconic musical acts of all time, recently signed an agreement with EMI which has allowed the development of a multi-format program of packages.

A series of different listening experiences have been specially created for this release: in addition to remastered CD’s called Discovery and the Immersion CD / DVD / Blu-ray / memorabilia box sets will be a series of Experience Editions – coupling one classic album with a further disc of related content from that album to offer a deeper listening experience.

The fourth annual installment of the We the People Music and Arts Festival is landing in downtown Los Angeles next Saturday, November 21 at the LA Center Studios to celebrate youth involvement in social and political activism. The headliners are punk legends Bad Religion and Suicidal Tendencies, supported by rap superduo Madvillain (MF Doom and Madlib) and one of our favorite hip-hop crews ever, Crown City Rockers, as well as Blu & Exile, Pepper, The Glitch Mob and Flobots. Black Eyed Peas leader Will.i.am will be playing an exclusive DJ set as well.

According to the official We The People site, “The organization of the We The People festival was conceived due to a great need for a stimulant in social awareness and an encompassing platform within the urban community to inspire the involvement and active participation of the conscious urban youth populous throughout the country.”

The LA Center Studios sound stages will feature two outdoor stages, an art exhibit, vendor booths, guest speakers and more than 30 musical acts. The event will also include speeches by Congresswoman Maxine Waters, criminal defense attorney Christopher Darden and Hip-Hop Summit Action Network President Dr. Benjamin Chavis. In true Wonka fashion, according to the official Third Man site, “the winner’s eyes will be exposed to delights never-before imagined by those with eyes or imagination.”

Stuffed randomly into copies of the Dead Weather’s debut album Horehound were six Golden Tickets that rewarded the winner (and a guest) with a trip to Nashville for a private tour of the Third Man Records compound. I purchased a copy of Horehound on a recent trip to the temporary Los Angeles location of the Third Man Record Store, and that’s how I became the sixth winner.

The trip is scheduled for September 23 – 25. Due to school, work or government intervention, none of my friends or family who would properly appreciate the experience are able to go, so I’m passing the opportunity on to you. How’s that for a karmic power-up?

The Collectors Editions of Kid A, Amnesiac and Hail To The Thief have just been released by Capitol/EMI, who are making the best out of the rights they have over Radiohead’s older material.

Each package includes the original album plus a second CD of rarities, including radio sessions and live recordings. The second discs of both Kid A and Amnesiac feature rare concert recordings, a session recorded for BBC Radio One in 2000, and live recordings from Canal+ Studios. Hail To The Thief‘s  second disc features EPs with rarities and live recordings, as well as a May 2003 recording for the Jo Whiley Show.

Here’s the catch:

Anyone can claim the ticket, but not for themselves. You have to give it to one of your friends.

In order to ensure that someone really awesome and deserving gets the ticket, someone out there appreciative of their contribution to the world has to step forward on their behalf.

All you’ve gotta do is send us an email (use the form!) and tell us briefly (or not briefly) who deserves the ticket and why. The show is tonight, so that means they’ll have to be able to be in Hollywood tonight to meet Johnny Firecloud for a wristband.

I’ll review each email and decide who gets the ticket by 5 PM. So you’ve only got a few hours. Typos will be forgiven.
