Nine Inch Nails Fans Uncover One Hour of Rare Fragile-Era Footage

By Fernando Scoczynski Filho

Nine Inch Nails fans can truly kick ass. Having already come up with more than a few excellent edits of live footage, the people who gather over at  NIN fan forum Echoing The Sound recently uncovered an hour’s worth of pro-shot video from the band during their 1999/2000 tour supporting The Fragile.

NIN Fragility

As a very detailed post on the forum explains, two BetacamSP tapes were obtained from the company that originally edited them together: one contained an MTV special based around NIN’s Fragility 1.0 tour across Europe, and another had footage of the band’s performance at Australia’s Big Day Out festival. After a grueling process to accurately convert the material into a usable format, the result came via what’s possibly the best-quality version of the footage available. Though Trent Reznor dismissed that period as “not his best,” it’s engaging to watch nonetheless – check out both videos below, or download them in a variety of formats here.

While we’re on the subject of The Fragile, keep in mind that NIN may go on tour this year featuring Adrian Belew, one of that album’s contributing musicians.

The fragile album and especially the live shows WERE the best. This is NIN at their absolute height. All That Could Have Been is undoubtedly the greatest live show caught (or compiled) on tape ever. Raw as hell, and more heart than anyone else can hold a candle to. A great moment in time and music.
