Tom Morello Slams Paul Ryan’s Unintentionally Ironic Musical Selection
(In)Decision 2012 is upon us, which means the country is of course focused on everything but politics. From appearance to musical preference, no superficial stone has been left unturned or scrutinized.
The closest these two will ever get to hanging out.
Who’s in the spotlight acting a fool now? Republican VP candidate Paul Ryan, whose love of Rage Against the Machine prompted outspoken guitarist Tom Morello to write an entire op-ed calling Ryan out. Morello’s previous ire towards Rush Limbaugh’s use of Rage song Sleep Now In The Fire only got a tweet!
While chastising Ryan’s idiocy, Morello cites other famous assclowns who “just didn’t get it”. To summarize with an SAT-style analogy: Charles Manson is to the Beatles as Chris Christie is to Bruce Springsteen. Check out Tom Morello’s full rant via Rolling Stone, which includes this gem: “I wonder what Ryan’s favorite Rage song is? Is it the one where we condemn the genocide of Native Americans? The one lambasting American imperialism? Our cover of Fuck The Police?
My guess is that Paul Ryan’s more a Fistful of Steel kinda guy.
I saw RATM at Lolla a few years back. I would say the majority of their fans don’t give a fuck about the meaning and message of their songs, they just want to mosh to “Fuck you I won’t do what you tell me.”
just gotta point this out, because it’s been either wrongly reported or left out entirely of most of the blurbs on this topic i’ve seen recently – the interview with ryan where he picks out RATM as his favorite band is like 5 years old.

Whats hilarious is that we are questioning Ryan’s judgment and not Morello’s. Here is a naive ideologue who wears the same red communist star that was worn when the most systematic, violent states in the history of mankind slaughtered 50 million people in the 20th Century. But I guess as long as you aren’t a right-wing freak styling a swastika you get a free pass as just a trendy libtarded fool.
I’m going to have to agree with this. RATM’s contribution to “I wear a Che T-shirt and don’t know why” douchebag culture is pretty unforgivable. They had some good songs, but fuck Morello and his politics.
NEVER FORGET: Morello wears the same logos as his secret hero Mao, who systematically slaughtered MILLIONS of poor peasant farmers. What a naive moron. All power to the state? You have to be a complete idiot for that to be your politics.
