Listen To The New Down Song ‘Witchtripper’
It has been five long years since the world has heard new music from Down. Thankfully the wait is over as the band plans to release four EP’s worth of brand new music over the next few months.
EP One is set for release on September 18th. The first single for the six song effort is entitled Witchtripper and it debuted earlier today on Rolling Stone’s website. Down vocalist Phil Anselmo shared the following thoughts on using Witchtripper as a song title with Rolling Stone:
“Somebody would suggest to me, ‘Hey, man, that might make a killer song title.’ And at the time I’m like, ‘You’re out of your fucking mind. There’s no way I’m gonna call a song ‘Witchtripper.’”
Yet after hearing the riff written by Down guitarist Pepper Keenan and drummer Jimmy Bower, Anselmo decided to play along with his band mates.
“I was like, ‘OK, check this out, you dicks. ‘Witchtripper’ you want, ‘Witchtripper’ you will get,’ I laid it on them, and sure enough, they were right – it worked, as usual. So there goes the genius of Phil Anselmo. Always doubting, and I’m the last one to get it.”

I am sure many people in your lifetime have told you to fuck yourself, so I will piggyback off them. The main riff may be Pepper’s, but Kirk’s contribution stands out.
