News: Metallica
Watch Videos From Metallica’s First ‘Black Album’ Show
Given the amount of bands that perform full studio albums in shows theses days, it wasn’t very surprising when Metallica announced that they were playing their self-titled record (aka Black Album) in its entirety. Yesterday, the first of their full-album gigs took place in Prague, including the live debut of three songs – but it came with a bit of a surprise.
Instead of playing the Black Album as everyone knows it, Metallica chose to start from its last song, The Struggle Within, and work their way backwards through its tracklist – which meant that Enter Sandman actually concluded that set. Below, we’ve selected some videos of the live rarities (and debuts) performed:
The Struggle Within (live debut; song starts at 2:15)
My Friend of Misery (live debut):
The God That Failed:
Through the Never:
Don’t Tread on Me (live debut):
The (reverse) Black Album gigs won’t remain an European exclusivity for long, as Metallica return to America in June for their Orion Music + More festival, performing both their self-titled record, and Ride The Lightning.

As Fernando and I joked on Twitter yesterday, Metallica knew everyone would leave after “the hit” thus playing the album backwards.
