Stream Tom Morello: The Nightwatchman’s Film ‘World Wide Rebel Tour’

By Jason Shane

Musician and activist Tom Morello recently released a short documentary entitled World Wide Rebel Tour under his solo moniker The Nightwatchman, making it available in both streaming and downloadable format on his website.

The 20-minute film comes in different versions for 42 separate countries (with commentary in 30 different languages), allowing The Nightwatchman and The Freedom Fighter Orchestra to virtually “tour” the planet in one day. In addition to a set of four tracks off his 2011 album World Wide Rebel Songs (Black Spartacus Heart Attack Machine, Save the Hammer for the Man, a particularly ripping take on It Begins Tonight, and the title track), Morello provides commentary on each of the songs and his vision for the album as an opportunity to meld his love for hard rock guitar and the “atmospheric folk music” of earlier efforts under The Nightwatchman name.

World Wide Rebel Tour is an interesting peek into an artist’s motivations and inspirations, as well as a chance to watch what was a private show, originally seen by only a handful of people, and then broadcast to billions via the Internet. Check it out below.

So every single Morello song sounds like a pep rally for a Maoist or Stalinist purging of people Morello politically disagrees with. Especially inspiring is his track about beating “the man” in the face with a hammer.

Meanwhile, he performs in the same corporate venues with the same corporate prices, profits, tiered ticket prices and class-based seating arrangements. But he looks so stylish in his “Workers of the World Unite” t-shirt.

What a clown this guy is. And his solo music suuuucks.

Guess what trendy fake communists? There is no greater murderer of the common man in history like your ideology. There is no greater force imprisoning artists like Morello in history. His target are the middle class, the enemy of the whole world communist movement, the only subjects of the state to ever crawl out of serfdom. Wake up lemmings. Morello not only sucks as a solo artist, he sucks in every way imaginable. His message should be shunned by every thinking person in the post-enlightenment world.

I absolutely agree. His solo music is so bad that it is actually seeping into my opinion of RATM. RATM has long since been a favorite of mine, but this guy is such a chump that it takes away so much of the bands pizzazz. Yes, I used the word “pizzazz”. I have never used it before, so it could very well be spelled incorrekitaly.
I would also like to point out that while he is in fact a tremendous innovator in guitar based music, he is a horrendous guitar player. His abilities are so incredibly limited. Case in point, watch the so called “incredible” solo that he performs with Bruce Springsteen. All that he does is regurgitate prior solos that he has performed on RATM albums. He has absolutely zero ability to improvise. I recall wondering how on earth I was able to perform RATM songs on my guitar when I was a lad of 15 years…? The reason is that it is so incredibly simple. Not to take anything away from the awesome riffs that he wrote in the past. You don’t need to be a great guitarist to write great songs. I am simply saying that he is a subpar guitar player, and that is me being kind to a man that has helped write some of the greatest songs to date.
HIS SOLO MUSIC IS SO FREAKING BAD!!!!!
One more thing, these communists and their stupid bs… I wonder how big of a house he lives in? What kind of car does he drive? How do these people spew their garbage, yet remain in the upper class echelon?

Perhaps I was a tad too hard on his guitar playing. He has written some of the greatest solos in guitar history. I guess that what I am complaining about is that he is so bad at improvisation that it makes me angry.
