News: Against Me!
Against Me!’s Tom Gabel Comes Out as Transgender
In a bit of shocking breaking news, Against Me! vocalist/guitarist Tom Gabel has apparently come out as transgender.
According to Rolling Stone, which will include a big feature on his story in next week’s issue, Gabel will adopt the name Laura Jane Grace, and will remain with his wife (and two-year old daughter).
Rolling Stone notes that this is the first time a considerably high-profile rock musician has come out as transgendered, which is obviously an amazingly courageous decision for Gabel to make.
In the following quote, Gabel offered some insight into his brave decision to go public with the news:
“I’m going to have embarrassing moments,” says Gabel, “and that won’t be fun. But that’s part of what talking to you is about – is hoping people will understand, and hoping they’ll be fairly kind.”

No word (yet) as to if this announcement will affect the future of Against Me, but that could presumably be part of the Rolling Stone piece.
