News:  Mad Season

Mike McCready Hints at New Mad Season Album

By Fernando Scoczynski Filho

Mad Season, the Seattle supergroup that attained something of a legendary status after its demise,  might see a sort of comeback later this year. Originally formed by Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready, Alice In Chain’s Layne Staley, Screaming Tree’s Barrett Martin (as well as special guest Mark Lanegan),  and John Baker Saunders, the group officially dissolved after Saunders passed away in 1999. But, as the Pearl Jam guitarist recently stated, the band still had some unreleased material.

According to GrungeReport, Mike McCready was interviewed by WFPK radio, while promoting a tour of his charity-driven UFO tribute band Flight To Mars. When asked about his side projects, McCready stated that he wants to re-release Mad Season’s 1995 debut Above, as well as a live album. Things got really interesting, however, when he casually mentioned that, back in the day, they also had a lot of new songs in progress, which he intends to go back to and properly record: “The thing that happened was, we were trying to do another record, but it just didn’t work, Layne went off and did Alice In Chains and then he died. So, what happened was, I had to change the band name to Disinformation. From the Disinformation sessions there are probably twelve songs, and out of that, probably eight that are pretty great. They need to be edited, but they’re all music, so we’re trying to find singers that are up to the caliber of Layne to do justice to it.”

The guitarist went on to add that the new Mad Season material, featuring new singers, could take a long time to get ready, and should be expected “towards the end of the year,” but that “we’re gonna make it really nice for” for the fans. Until then, enjoy a little nostalgia:

Meanwhile, Mike McCready’s main act Pearl Jam are reportedly taking their time in recording their tenth LP. In the interview above, he calls the record a “slow-cooked turkey”, that shouldn’t be expected in 2012.
