Mars Volta Frontman Breaks Down ‘Noctourniquet’ Track By Track
In a video posted by the band, Cedric-Bixler Zavala of The Mars Volta speaks at length about each song on TMV’s mind-bending new album, Noctourniquet.
The video is 11 minutes long, and in that time Cedric expands upon the album’s eccentric nature, a whirlwind of atmospheric weirdness and proggy precision that’s made us quite excited around the AQ campfire over the past couple of months.
Here’s a choice quote from the video, with Bixler-Zavala discussing the song Dyslexicon:
“It’s a title I’ve had for a long time ‘cause I got it from a book – I know a book had it in the title and it just sort of stuck with me. And I thought ‘Oh, rock ‘n’ roll, we all sample each other’s ideas. Like hip-hop in the ‘90s. Which is why our t-shirts are the way they are…”
Other topics discussed in the clip include how his personal life affected the album’s conception and which song on the album guitarist Omar Rodriguez-Lopez wrote him “as a gift”.
Check it out below.
Tip of the cap to CoS for pointing this to our attention.
