News, Studio Reports:  Baroness

Baroness Announce New Double Album, ‘Yellow & Green’

By Fernando Scoczynski Filho

It feels like it’s been too long since we were last impressed by Baroness, as the Savannah, Georgia metal outfit released their impressive sophomore effort Blue Record back in 2009. Luckily, the group has just officially announced their third record – in keeping with color schemes (their debut was titled Red Album), this new, double LP will be called Yellow & Green.

In a lengthy interview with Alternative Press, frontman John Baizley went into detail on how the new record would sound “different,” coming from the “absolutely unanimous decision within the band to push our sound outwards a little bit”, saying: “We need to do different things, so you’re going to hopefully notice a heightened sense of melody and a more developed and focused type of song for us. I’m totally over writing hard music to perform. It’s fun in that it pushes you to the boundaries of your technical ability, but more recently, the challenge has been pushing out the boundaries of our songwriting ability. We had to say, ‘Sometimes a simpler song is a better song,’ because you pay more attention to the song.” So, a lot like that last Mastodon record? We kid, obviously.

Expect the double CD/LP Yellow & Green to be released on July 17th via Relapse Records. Before they run out of colors, a tour in support of the album will start later this month:
