Video: The Mars Volta Take New Album Questions From Fans

By Johnny Firecloud

Cedric Bixler Zavala and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, the two cornerstones of The Mars Volta, recently sat down for a Q&A session on YouTube to answer some of the more pressing inquiries from fans about their new album Noctourniquet, which sees a release on March 27 but leaked online Thursday afternoon.

In the first installment, the TMV singer and guitarist explain what makes this album different from the others – a normally benign band question that takes on an entirely different relevance for the kaleidoscopic fifth-dimensional schizophrenia of Volta’s music.

Omar addresses the difference in sound  to life changes and attention to avoiding their own musical tendencies, whether singing in a lower register or “cutting out excessive musicality”.

“It’s our krautrock record… only in spirit,” Cedric offers.

Oh look, another arrived today as well:

…And another:

Listen to the first single The Malkin Jewel, and pre-order Noctourniquet at the official Mars Volta site.

its obvious that theyre not actually taking any questions in consideration, they already made the interview with their own set of questions, but still glad to hear they got new stuff out, pretty exciting

Honestly not digging the new album too much, might have to give it a few more spins. I might be in the minority but my favorite Volta is the Prog-rock ridiculousness of Amputecture.

i agree completely, amputechture is a well crafted masterpiece my favorite by far, but i felt the same way about the new volta stuff, its just that it grows in you
