Mariachi El Bronx Cover Bob Dylan’s ‘Love Sick’ On Leno

Everyone’s favorite hardcore-turned-mariachi band Mariachi El Bronx took the stage on Jay Leno earlier this week to perform a cover of Bob Dylan’s Love Sick.

Punchy trumpet work and a swelling violin help to add a significant amount of musical flair, making it far more palatable than the original Dylan track. Watch below:

Love Sick serves as the Bronx’ contribution to the massive Chimes of Freedom, a Dylan tribute album released to benefit Amnesty International. The album is all over the place, featuring everyone from Miley Cyrus, Elvis Costello and the Silversun Pickups to Sting, Lenny Kravitz and Queens of the Stone Age, who pumped out an excellent version of Outlaw Blues.

Last summer Bronx drummer Jorma Vik provided us with a A Gringo’s Guide to Mariachi, offering a look at a the band’s reasoning for diving into the world of mariachi. It’s also worth mentioning that The Bronx (without the mariachi) are working on their fourth eponymous album, which we’re excited as hell for. Here’s why.
