Re:Generation Music Project Premiere Brings Electronica’s Top Talent To LA

By Antiquiet Staff

Last night we headed down to the wild wonderland of Hollywood for the red carpet event and premiere of the RE:GENERATION MUSIC PROJECT – a fascinating DJ-centric documentary sponsored by Hyundai Veloster and directed by award-winning documentarian Amir Bar-Lev. Major players attending and involved with the project included Mark Ronson, The Crystal Method, DJ Premier, Skrillex, John Densmore of The Doors and many others.

Produced in association with The Grammys, the film project explores the ever-evolving musical spectrum through the eyes and voices of five of the most influential electronic producers and DJs on the circuit today. The goal was to give each artist a platform by which to hybridize their own style with that of another musician, writing and recording a brand new track.

Skrillex put heads together with members of The Doors for Breakn’ A Sweat, while production whiz Mark Ronson worked his musical alchemy with Erykah Badu and Mos Def for A LA Modeliste — and that’s just the tip of the mashtastic iceberg.

The L.A. premiere of the Re:Generation movie was the next step in development from the various Hyundai Veloster events we covered at the tail end of 2011. The film goes to exciting lengths to document the daily lives of the contributing artists and their collaborative experiments, some of which proved more complicating – and rewarding – than first conceptualized. We’re able to see ultra-hot DJ Pretty Lights work his goofy charm when challenged with a country collaboration, we’re witness to Ronson’s sonic gelling with the stunning Erykah Badu, and above all else, are given an inside glimpse of how all these stories, styles and skills came together for a collaborative project unlike any other.

Catch the RE:GENERATION MUSIC PROJECT film in theaters on Feb 16th and 23rd.
