Reznor Unveils New How To Destroy Angels, Karen O Talks Zeppelin Cover & New YYY
With Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross’ soundtrack for David Fincher’s upcoming film The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo released today, it was only a matter of time before the second of two covers on the record would hit the web.
The song in question is a version of Bryan Ferry’s 1985 song Is Your Love Strong Enough, performed here by Trent & Atticus’ other project, How To Destroy Angels, with Reznor’s wife on vocals. The cover, which comes in as the final track of the soundtrack, can be found below, courtesy of Mouth Taped Shut:
The original, overtly-80s-sounding song can be found here, for comparison.
Earlier this week, Trent was interviewed on BBC Radio 1, mentioning that the full-length record from HTDA would definitely be released in 2012. More recently, he was interviewed by The Sun, and confirmed that the LP is in fact coming out during the “first quarter of next year.” The NIN frontman also took the opportunity to remind fans that the deluxe reissue of their third LP, The Fragile, remixed in 5.1 audio with Alan Moulder, is still a running project. Regarding the possibility of a new NIN record, he sounded quite optimistic: ”I highly expect that to be the focus of 2012 in terms of writing and we may see a full-length release even.”
The Sun’s article also includes a few words from Karen O, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman who sang vocals on the opening track for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo‘s score, her and Trent’s cover of Led Zeppelin’s Immigrant Song. Firstly, she admitted to not actually knowing the song, going into the project: ”I plead total ignorance to Led Zeppelin. I am totally in the dark about them. That was the reason I could muster up whatever it took to actually cover that song. I didn’t have any reverence for the track as I didn’t really know it. I didn’t even hear the name right when I was asked. I thought they said The Pilgrim Song and I was like, ‘What’s that?’ Yeah I know, it’s pretty embarrassing.”
Last but not least, Karen also said that the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ long hiatus is finally coming to a close, stating: ”And I’ve also been tinkering around on some new Yeah Yeah Yeahs music with the boys.”
Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross’ The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo score is out now, and can be acquired here.
