The Flaming Lips Do Another Beatles Cover: ‘I Am The Walrus’
Out of all the insane stuff that The Flaming Lips pulled off this year, it’s hard to pin one down as our favorite. The gummy fetus? Working At NASA On Acid? The 24-hour song packed in an actual human skull? Regardless, the group are closing out the year with something only slightly more conventional: a cover of The Beatles’ I Am The Walrus.
As Stereogum reports, the live performance of the song was recorded by DeLo Creative (their own production company), for the video that can be seen below. Coming only a couple of months after their version of Revolution, their second Beatles cover is released in anticipation of The Flaming Lips’ New Year’s Freakout #5, in Oklahoma City, featuring Sean Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band, where the artists will perform (you guessed it) Beatles covers. Watch I Am The Walrus below:
The Flaming Lips’ New Year’s Freakout #5 will happen (obviously) on December 31. We’ll be there. And in 2012, we’ll continue to follow the band’s notable forays into ever-increasingly weird shit.
