2012 Rock Hall Inductees Announced… But Who Will Show For GNR?

By Fernando Scoczynski Filho

The long-overdue induction of certain artists into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame was hinted at in September, with the announcement of a solid list of nominees. Now, the votes have been counted, and the inductees have been confirmed.

The most noteworthy inclusions are Guns N’ Roses, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Beastie Boys – all of which have been active for well over 25 years. Among the other inductees are Ron Wood and Rod Stewart’s classic 60′s group The Faces, 60′s folk artist Donovan, blues singer Freddie King, and Don Kirshner, one of the creators and songwriters for the Monkees.

One look at the list of nominees will reveal the clear snubs: The Cure, Joan Jett And The Blackhearts, and Heart all failed to get enough votes to be inducted.

While Beastie Boys and RHCP are likely to perform at the event, there’s a lot of speculation on whether or not Guns N’ Roses will show up and, most importantly, with which line-up. Original drummer Steven Adler has long been embarrassingly eager the possibility of a reunion of the original line-up, and his replacement Matt Sorum sounds like he’d be pleased to be present as well. It seems that original rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradin has been on good terms with frontman Axl Rose as of late, and bassist Duff McKagan’s band Loaded is even opening for GNR. So the issue of a reunion of the original line-up lies, as expected, between Axl and original lead guitarist Slash, where the most acrimonious feelings have taken root in the past decade and a half. The latter seems to be more outspoken about the possibility (albeit in a “never say never”-attitude), but the former shows no hints of reconciling with the old bandmate anytime soon.

The 2012 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will occur on April 14, 2012, in Cleveland.
