News:  Leonard Cohen

Leonard Cohen’s ‘Show Me The Place’ Arrives (Listen)

By Fernando Scoczynski Filho

77-year-old singer-songwriter/poet Leonard Cohen shows no signs of retiring soon. Having last toured extensively in 2010, he’s recently announced the release of his first studio album in eight years, and revealed a new track from it.

As reported on Cohen’s website, a record entitled Old Ideas will be out on January 31st, 2012, consisting of ten previously unreleased tracks. Regarding the album, the singer stated: ”As I grew older, I understood that instructions came with this voice. And the instructions were these… Never to lament casually. And if one is to express the great inevitable defeat that awaits us all, it must be done within the strict confines of dignity and beauty.” Along with the announcement, new track Show Me The Place has been made available for streaming:

The tracklisting for Old Ideas is as follows:

Show Me The Place by leonardcohen

02 Amen

03 Show Me the Place

09 Lullaby

10 Different Sides

A couple of other songs from the record already had their live premieres in 2009, and both can be seen below:

The Darkness

Lullaby

Although this will be his twelfth LP, he noted back in October that songwriting hasn’t gotten necessarily easier over the years: ”You know, when you’re writing, you’re always an absolute beginner. Each time you take up your guitar or sit by a blank page, you start from scratch. It’s a struggle.” On the possibility of touring again, he said that “God willing” it’ll happen, adding, “I never quite know whether there’s going to be a tour or not.”

Old Ideas can be pre-ordered here.
