News:  Florence & The Machine

Florence & The Machine Make SNL Memorable

By Johnny Firecloud

Florence & The Machine killed it in their musical guest performances on Saturday Night Live, playing the long-running and pendular show for the second time on Saturday (Jason Segel hosted).

Promoting their recently released and surprisingly impressive sophomore album Ceremonials, the fire-maned enigma and band served up compelling renditions of Shake It Outand No Light, No Light. It’s a damn good thing for the rest of the show, as SNL turned in one of its most lackluster comedic shows in months.

You have to be kidding. Florence Welch was so off key that it was unbearable. It was like she was singing in a different band in a completely foreign tuning. I’ve heard bad mixes on SNL but never anyone this “pitchy”. Jesus, she was bad.

Was Johnny Firecloud watching with the sound off? I know it’s “cool” to run down SNL, and it’s “cool” to talk up indie darlings until they hit mainstream, but at some point you have to stop living out the cliche` rock writer stance and open your ears to the music; Florence’s performance was painfully off-key and cringe-inducing.

Wow. The hotter the ginger, the more forgivable the butchering of a song, I guess.

I like Florence and her machinations a lot, but just because I’m a fan doesn’t mean I’m “blind” to her sideways notes. Just like Taylor Swift, whom you also praise.

Do people still think its cool to bag on every episode of SNL? Seriously, it’s getting old. The first sketch was amazing, and there were some pretty decent ones. I think it was one of the best episodes of the season. Better than Alec Baldwin’s.

Florence was so Nervous! ! terribleshakey, pitchy. Was a Horrible performance…..am. def never going to their concert…..also Snl Thanksgiving seg was disgusting, they need a new creative team…not funny at all:(

Okay, so it wasn’t one of her best. But she was nervous, she was touring for a really, really, really, really long time and singing practically everywhere. I think we can excuse one spotty performance, since she’s practically brilliant everywhere else.
