Re:Mix Labs Preview RE:GENERATION Doc And Q&A Session In NYC
Antiquiet’s all up in CMJ‘s business this week in New York City, and last night we made our way over to the Re:Mix Labs event, sponsored by Hyundai Veloster. There we checked out a Q&A with Amir Bar Lev, the director of the forthcoming documentary RE:GENERATION, along with one of the stars of the film, DJ Premier.
We enjoyed some tasty edibles, a healthy indulgence in the open bar, eye candy and a few gaming competitions thanks to Hyundais that featured glowing DJ consoles, Xbox 360s and 3D televisions in their trunks, before the real events began. After a showing of the trailer of the film (which you can check out down below), the Q&A session began, showcasing details on both how the documentary came to be, and what the greater scope of the project is about.
DJ Premier later stepped up to the decks for a live set, which included a brief clip of the track he made for the RE:GENERATION film, which features Nas and the Berklee School of Music Orchestra.
The film has reportedly been submitted to the Sundance film festival, and screenings are already planned for festivals around the country next year. A cinema release is in the works, and talks with television networks are underway to bring the film to as many people as possible.
A soundtrack release is planned for the coming weeks, featuring connected talent Skrillex, Mark Ronson (who we stumbled into in the street, jovially) and The Crystal Method working with members of The Doors, Erykah Badu and Martha Reeves.
If you’re in NYC this weekend, the Re:Mix lab will be available for your discovery until October 23rd. There you’ll be able to check out the new Hyundai Velosters which will hit the market in 2012, take a few DJ lessons, catch some live music and, yes, even play underground bingo. After this weekend, the Re:Mix Labs lab will be heading to L.A., Vegas, Miami and Chicago later this year. Check out their website for all the details.
Re:Mix Labs is a DJ workshop and multimedia event featuring music, films and gaming to support the RE:GENERATION series. Poised to teach up-and-coming DJs what it takes to become a professional mixer, the event aims to enlighten, inform and inspire with hands-on action and an overload of stimuli during the craziest musical week New York experiences each year. We have been paid to tell you this.
