News: R.E.M.
Go Back To 1998 And Watch R.E.M. Perform With Neil Young At Bridge School Benefit
It was a cold night out at Shoreline Amphitheatre in October 1998. As with all Bridge School Benefit concerts, there were no shortage of All-Stars looking to assist the Bay Area school that educates children with severe speech and physical impairments. In addition to the likes of Eels, Barenaked Ladies and Phish, on this particular weekend R.E.M. were taking part in their first of many Bridge School performances.
With their album Up set to be released a few weeks after the benefit gigs, the highlight of R.E.M.’s inaugural visit was inviting Neil Young to the stage for a goose bump educing performance of their song Country Feedback. Thanks to Spin.com and the soon to be released retrospective The Bridge School Concerts, you can relive this and many more moments from 25 years of benefits. The CD and DVD sets hit stores on Tuesday October 24th 2011, two days after such beloved artists as Arcade Fire, Foo Fighters and Beck bring their best acoustic anarchy to Mt. View, CA.
