Watch Johnny Depp & Keith Richards Rock The Blues
It’s probably a well-known fact by now that Johnny Depp has great admiration for Keith Richards. The actor reportedly based his Pirates of the Caribbean character on the Rolling Stones guitarist, and even got him to appear in a couple of the franchise’s films. Appearing onstage together would be a predictable next step.
Last Tuesday, at New York’s Matitime Hotel, during the after-party for the premiere of Depp’s new movie (The Rum Diary, based on Hunter S. Thompson’s novel of the same name) he got onstage and played a song with Richards. They covered Charlie Segar’s Key to the Highway (popularized by the Stones’ version) – a basic blues jam, but the footage of it is pretty cool. Watch the video below, courtesy ofFilmester (actual song starts at 2:16):
That’s still far better than anything the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise produced in the past few years. Recently, Johnny Depp also jammed with Billy Gibbons and Alice Cooper. We imagine whom he’ll have to play with to make us forget Tim Burton’s next movie. Ouch.
