News:  Jane's Addiction

Watch Jane’s Addiction’s Return To TV After 8 Years

By José Pepe

Jane’s Addiction reappeared last night on TV, after 8 long years, on Jimmy Kimmel Live to perform Irresistible Force, the first single of their soon to be released The Great Escape Artist, which we glowingly reviewed earlier this week.

The band performed with touring bassist Chris Chaney, who fans will recognize from Jane’s third album, Strays, released in 2003.

Perry Farrell seems a little out of it at the beginning of Irresistible Force, maybe distracted thinking about his monster effects rack besides him, but at the very second the first chorus starts, the man finds his way. Is also interesting to notice the layers of samples they are using to recreate this one live. Not a usual Jane’s move.

Then, as a web exclusive, “Juana’s Adicción” played Stop!, their classic from 1990′s Ritual De Lo Habitual. Here they show themselves in a great shape, ripping through the song like the champs they are.

The Great Escape Artist will be released on October 18th, through Capitol Records.

Not exactly bowled over by the new song live, and as far as Perry’s singing on Stop! goes, can I be the first to say “Ouch”!? Not even half of that was anything more than mumbling, and most of it seemed completely off-time. Not so disappointed I didn’t make it to Reading fest now, his delivery was razor sharp when they supported NIN in ’09. To quote Mike LaFontaine, “Hey, wha’ happened?”.

Can Perry Farrell get a button on that panel that can STOP him from sucking?

    Hey Perry…STOP!

Nah, he does a decent job. The rest of the band is sick tight.
