Flaming Lips Set Record Store Day Collabs With Death Cab & More

By Fernando Scoczynski Filho

Having recently done a bunch of crazy shit (as usual), The Flaming Lips are already prepping up something cool for next year’s Record Store Day.

As Billboard reports, the band intends to release a compilation of the collaborations they’ve done recently, with artists such as Neon Indian, Lightning Bolt and Prefuse 73 – not to mention ones that are yet to be released, with the likes of Nick Cave, Death Cab for Cutie, Ghostland Observatory and Cloudland Canyon; and ones that are still in the planning phase, with Lykke Li and Ke$ha.

Regarding the release, frontman Wayne Coyne stated: ”I am bound to the agreements we have with the other artists because we’re doing all of this as limited editions. They’re trusting us not just to sound cool but handle the music with special care.” He added that the collaborations will be divided into two compilations, the first likely coming in April 2012, and the second around October the same year.

The Flaming Lips have a few tour dates across the US later this month.
