News:  Smashing Pumpkins

Billy Corgan Starts His Own Wrestling League

By Reverend Justito

Over the past few decades there has been no shortage of celebrities pursuing other interests far, far away from the ones that made them famous. Jerry Garcia had a successful line of neck ties, Paul Newman made salad dressing and now Smashing Pumpkins mastermind Billy Corgan is set to launch his own professional wrestling company, called Resistance Pro Wrestling.

Resistance Pro Wrestling is set to have its first major Black Friday event in Corgan’s hometown of Chicago on Friday November 25th. For an upstart, the promotion already has an impressive roster of talent including former WWE Tag Team Champion David Hart Smith, Necro Butcher (who you may remember from the Mickey Rourke film The Wrestler) and former two-time ECW Heavyweight champion Raven.

While that may cause most music fans over 14 to giggle, anyone familiar with the man knows that he not only loves wrestling but is well-versed in what goes down in the squared circle. Billy recently sat down with Chicago’s local Fox News affiliate to promote Resistance Pro Wrestling, and during the brief conversation, revealed some interesting information about the upstart organization. In addition to sharing that the promotion will be more old school, less entertainment based, the former Zwan frontman revealed that RPW will be working with the Sports Legacy Institute to continue their agenda of concussion awareness. Corgan announced that he wants to be the first wrestling organization to deal with concussions right out front and that talent will be tested for concussions before and after entering the ring.

When asked if he would enter the ring, Corgan shared:

I want to be behind the scenes. I am more the creative person with the promotion hoping to set the tone, but you know how wrestling is. Eventually someone is going to call me out.”

Tickets for RPW’s Black Friday event are on sale now. If you want to catch Billy Corgan with the Smashing Pumpkins, they are on tour now through October 22nd.

Hopefully somebody will get him in the ring and break his neck so he stops making noise.
