Tori Amos Issues A Challenge To Metal Bands
For years the stars of hard rock and heavy metal have feuded over everything from on stage posing to being pelted by eggs by one of the judges on America’s Got Talent. While she may seem like an outsider, metal bands may want to think twice before taking on an open challenge from Tori Amos. Known for taking Slayer’s classic Raining Blood and turning it into a “huge juicy vagina coming out of the sky, raining blood over all those racist, misogynist fuckers [in Afghanistan],” Amos is no stranger to the world of heavy metal.
Amos recently sat down with Spinner to promote her just released classically-inspired album Night Of Hunters. During the conversation, Amos issued a challenge to any and all metal bands willing to take her on:
Well, look, sometimes you don’t know how music affects people. I embrace that because I don’t think that just because I talk about emotional stuff that it’s not motherfucker stuff. I’ll stand next to the hardest fucking heavy metal band on any stage in the world and take them down, alone, by myself. Gauntlet laid down, see who steps up. See who steps up! I’ll take them down at 48. And they know I will. Because emotion has power that the metal guys know is just you can’t touch it. Insanity can’t touch the soul. It’s going to win every fucking time.
While no metal bands have yet to take the star of a 1980’s Kellog’s cereal commercial up on her challenge, they should be warned that Amos knows a thing or two about metal. Six years before the release of her breakout solo record Little Earthquakes, Amos (along with former Guns ‘N’ Roses drummer Matt Sorum) was a member of the Sunset Strip glam rock outfit Y Kant Tori Read. With the band’s out of print eponymous release going for hundreds of dollars on Ebay, there is no word if Amos plans to reunite the group anytime soon.
You can, however, catch Amos supporting Night Of Hunters on both sides of the Atlantic this fall. The tour (which will feature Amos performing alongside the Appollon-Musagete quartet) kicks off September 28th at the Ice Hall in Helsinki Finland and will wrap in Dallas Texas on December 22nd.
Here’s a little sex power from the fairy queen – and tell me, who else fucks up a song and recovers so exquisitely?
