Thom Yorke Promises Atoms For Peace Album, Radiohead Tour

A King of Limbs tour is on its way, says Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke. Appearing as a special guest for Gilles Peterson’s BBC Radio 1 program, Yorke announced Radiohead’s plans to go on the road next year in support of their latest effort.

“The idea is to go out and play next year on and off during the year,” said the frontman in the interview, claiming that what finally motivated them to tour the record was the substantial attention that bred from their surprise set at Glastonbury. “We did get a massive buzz out of our first gig at Glastonbury, that was a sort of nice energy really. It feels like a good idea”. Portishead’s Clive Deamer, who played with the band during both Glastonbury and their In The Basement sessions, will also be accompanying them on the upcoming tour.

Yorke also gave a quick update on the state of his most recent all-star endeavor, Atoms for Peace; a supergroup formed in 2009 with Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea, frequent Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich, drummer Joey Waronker and percussionist Mauro Refosco. The group embarked on a short yet acclaimed two-week tour mostly performing songs from Yorke’s solo album, The Eraser, but according to Yorke “… [It] sparked something off… So we ended up at the end of that getting into the studio and generating some new beats.” Yorke maintained that the LP has been recorded and that he and Godrich are currently putting the finishing touches on it. With that said, a release date is still pending.

Yorke also played some remixes from the on-going TKOL RMX series, including a never-before-heard Jamie xx remix of Bloom. An album consisting of all the remixes – which include remixes from Caribou, Four Tet, and Modeselektor – will be released on October 10th.

Just in case all the Radiohead news is not enough, the Oxford-town art rockers will also be appearing on Saturday Night Live this weekend, The Colbert Report next week, and will be performing for two nights at the Roseland Ballroom in Manhattan on September 28th and 29th.
