News:  Slipknot

Be A Part Of Slipknot’s ‘Maggot Bible’

By Kyle McVeigh

Although the future of Slipknot as a group is an uncertain one due to the death of founding bassist Paul Gray, the band is soldiering on in different ways.  Hence the news this morning that Shawn Crahan, a.k.a. Clown, is creating a Maggot Bible.

For those unfamiliar, the term “Maggot” was given by Crahan to diehard fans of Slipknot.  In other words, it’s meant to be affectionate.  In honor of the Maggots, Crahan is putting together a Maggot Bible, a book full of artwork and poetry inspired by the work of Slipknot created by the Maggots themselves.

On Maggotbible.com, Crahan introduces the concept: “Okay, I’m going to do the very best I can to describe this crazy dream I had about a book called the Maggot Bible.  My connection with you on the internet or in person has always been surrounded by these ideas of art and how art can ease the pain of life.  What I would like to create with you is a book that can bring these ideas together in a tangible and at the same time, artistic form.”

Now, before all you Maggots go firing up your MS Paint or Photoshop, Crahan would like your submissions the old-fashioned way: hardcopy, sent via snail mail.  “If I were to make it easy and allow emails then it would make it all the less real, I think.  I want to hold all the stories, poems and art in my hands.”

As with anything in life, there is a catch.  Or in this case, catches.  There is no deadline for submissions yet, but there is some legality involved:

A) No nudity of any kind.

B) Subject matter cannot be of an illegal nature.

C) Not all submissions will be in the final publication.

D) Submissions should only be of a visual artistic nature, including but not limited to photos, paintings, illustrations, poetry or short stories. NO MUSICAL SUBMISSIONS, PLEASE!

E) Submissions will not be returned.

F) Only fully original material created and owned entirely by the submitter should be submitted and this material should not contain any parts which are not created and owned entirely by the submitter.

For more detailed information, including the full submission form and the address to which Maggots can send their works of inspiration, you can visit the site mentioned above.  Say what you will about Slipknot, you have to admit this is a pretty cool idea.  It’s rare that a band has this kind of connection with its fans and is willing to go so far as to celebrate that connection.  If Slipknot does decide to continue on, the Maggots will no doubt be right there to support them.

It’s actually a cool idea….even if the dude is a douche and the artwork will be most likely be lame, generic goth stuff mixed with emo poetry from 17 year old girls.
