News:  Pearl Jam

Watch Pearl Jam’s PJ20 Collaborations With Cornell, QOTSA, The Strokes, Liam Finn & More

By Stu Ruiz

Logically we all should have seen this coming. Pearl Jam hosts a big 20th anniversary destination weekend, invites their favorite bands to play, and you expect them to sit politely and watch each other rock out without getting involved?  Of course not, and neither did we, but that doesn’t lessen the excitement, that sense of giddy enthusiasm of seeing your heroes join forces to put on some hair-raising and truly inspiring moments.

During Pearl Jam’s PJ20 set Saturday night, Julian Casablancas, Josh Homme, Glen Hansard, Liam Finn, Dan Peters, Dhanni Harrison and Chris Cornell all joined in the fun, which was thankfully caught on quality video. Check out some incredible footage below – and stay tuned for our full report from the weekend, absolutely packed with incredible photos.

Who You Are with Glen Hansard, Liam Finn, and Joseph Arthur on backup:

Education with Liam Finn:

State of Love and Trust with Dhanni Harrison on guitar:

In the Moonlight with Josh Homme:

Not For You with Julian Casablancas

Stardog Champion (Mother Love Bone cover), with Chris Cornell

Chris Cornell also came out for a Temple of the Dog reunion (which served as PJ’s first encore), pulling out songs that form the heart of a band that was meant to be a tribute to the late Andrew Wood. Check out the powerful & sentimental performances below.

Hunger Strike with Chris Cornell:

Say Hello to Heaven with Chris Cornell:

Reach Down with Chris Cornell:

And that’s not even everything.  Now check out night one’s set closer with Mudhoney joining in on Kick Out the Jams:

And that’s not even mentioning Eddie singing with The Strokes, half of Pearl Jam serving as Joseph Arthur’s backing band and so on. That’s only day one. I’m starting to think I seriously fucked up by not being in attendance.

Shows like this represent a big part of the meaning of life. To relish in that feeling that only shows like this can bring…..and then to hold on to that feeling as the days and weeks go by, following the show.

What a fantastic post for an even more unbelievable set of shows. I’m just shocked that “In the Moonlight” is in a setlist- it’s probably my all time favorite B-side, especially from the Binaural sessions. Josh’s back up vocals were solid on that one!

It just goes to show that even though my interest in Pearl Jam (which remains my all time favorite band) has diminished significantly over the years (I just listen to different stuff nowadays), stuff like this just draws me right back to when I was much younger and getting every PJ album, live gig CD, and b-side/cover/whathaveyou was pretty much all I wanted to do with my free time. This band is fucking amazing.

Great time and show(s)! Met so many people for all over the place. Everyone was there for a good time and that sense of community kept me from meeting any assholes. Thats a hard thing to do when you’ve got so many people in attendance. QOTSA rocked hard, just wished they would have had the Strokes slot as most the crowd was still lingering about during their time slot. All and all a pretty epic event.
PJ fans had a lot to do with the whole experience. They love their band thats for sure.

    Best. Band. Ever.

I was a fan of this band, then I saw them live and they became apart of my life. No other band or music affects me the way this band does. What bugs me the most is all the complaining about Cornell, and how much time he got, I understand that people are entitled to their opinion, but they are just stupid. In my opinion they just don’t get it… Mother Love Bone, and Temple of the Dog were huge parts in the development and history of Pearl Jam.

Furthermore, how many people can say they got to see Cornell and EV perform hunger strike together? Or see Stardog Champion live? This was history in front of our faces and people still have an issue with it? Give me a break, this weekend was everything I hoped it could be, and then some. Star Anna was great, Joseph Arthur was intriguing, Liam Finn blew my fucking mind so much so that I made sure to get up front on Sunday for him… low and behold EV comes out on stage and does HABIT with him 5 rows away from me, that will NEVER happen again, I will never be that close to a living legend again. Don’t even get me started on the PJ museum, holy shit, amazing. I had a blast this weekend, and I can’t wait to read your review, love the site, keep up the great work!

This is so awesome! You can compile a Pearl Jam playlist on Spotify and win a private screening of the documentary #PJ20 http://www.pj20.com/spotifycontest/.
    The soundtrack is brilliant.

Agreed Barbara! This band loves it’s fans, and likewise.
