News: Primus
Hear The New Primus Song, ‘Tragedy’s A’ Comin”
It has been eight long years since the world has heard new studio recordings from Primus. Thankfully that wait is over as the Bay Area alterna-funk-prog-metal freaks of nature are set to release their 7th full length studio album on September 13th. Green Naugahyde will feature bassist/vocalist Les Claypool, guitarist Larry LaLonde and drummer Jay Lane who originally left Primus before their groundbreaking debut Frizzle Fry.
The album’s first single Tragedy’s A’ Comin’ has hit the ‘net via SPIN, and it features that much-missed signature Primus sound. Bouncin’ bass lines and quirky guitars with odd time signatures once again serve as the perfect sonic backdrop for Claypool’s twisted tales. While the song is nothing groundbreaking (in fact it sounds a lot like Ballad Of Bodacious from the bands 1999 release Antipop) the fact that the band is back is reason enough for celebration.
Claypool recently informed Spin.com that Tragedy is a tale that involves a bible thumping chick and the end of the world: “Lyrically, this is me focusing on eventual demise or at least the notion that big rain is coming and at some point I’m going to get pretty fucking wet.”
Unless Jesus makes his long awaited return, Primus plans to support Green Naugahyde with a North American tour that kicks off September 23rd in Boston, MA. The complete track listing for Green Naugahyde is as follows:
1. Prelude To A Crawl
2. Hennepin Crawler
3. Last Salmon Man (Fisherman’s Chronicles, Part IV)
4. Eternal Consumption Engine
5. Tragedy’s A’ Comin’
6. Eyes Of The Squirrel
7. Jilly’s On Smack
8. Lee Van Cleef
9. Moron TV

12. Extinction Burst
13. Salmon Men

I think I just camed. This sounds a bit like George Clinton. Why do Primus never tour outside the US?
Alex, you realize that Primus was in Europe last month and Australia in March? I know December was a long time ago, but they were in Argentina. What makes you say they don’t tour outside of the US?
