The Deftones’ Chino Moreno’s long-rumored project with Far guitarist Shaun Lopez has finally arrived, under the moniker Crosses (or †††).
Back in March, in an interview with Noisecreep.com, Moreno elaborated on how Crosses came to be, stating: “Recently, during these little breaks that we’ve had, we’ve been recording this real minimal project where it’s just me and him and another buddy of mine, Scott Chuck, and we’re just writing these little pieces of music, whether it starts with piano or some down tempo beats.”
Moreno also described how the overall sound of Crosses is different from what Deftones fans are often attuned to: “It’s really minimal and soothing and it’s sort of like the stuff I like listening to when I’m not screaming my head off.”
Crosses finds Moreno and Lopez taking a more electronic-based approach with their music, as they pursue and discover new dreamscapes and craft an undercurrent of both haunting and attractive qualities. The results are quite impressive, and if the EP is any indication, we can surely expect more gems from this exciting collaboration in the near future.
The plan for Crosses, as of a few months ago, has been to release a collection of 16 songs in a series of online EPs.
