News:  The Black Keys

The Black Keys Ready Seventh Studio Album

By Stu Ruiz

Some good news for Blacks Keys fans; the band is back in the studio. But those looking for a follow up to the soul-blues of Brothers should keep their expectations in check.

Black Key lead man Dan Auerbach remarked about the album that “It’s the fastest we’ve ever played… The new album doesn’t sound like Brothers. It doesn’t have that open soul feel to it. It’s way more driving and the tempos are really fast.”

Did I say to keep expectation in check?  That should probably be amended to letting them run free, especially considering The Black Keys in high gear turn out blues pummelings like this one:

Dan also shared a bit of his approach to the music on the upcoming record, “I’ve never been into guitar solos. I really like when every instrument in the band is a rhythm instrument. This record has a lot of that going on – guitar, bass, drums, and keyboards all working together as a rhythm instrument. But unlike Brothers, which has more of these slower songs with an open feeling, [the new LP] is definitely fast.”

Bringing that rhythm attack together behind the board will be Danger Mouse who previously worked on their album Attack & Release and the Keys’ big single off of Brothers, Tighten Up.
