News: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
Exclusive: Hear An Unreleased Black Rebel Motorcycle Club Demo
We brought you the Strokes/Eddie Vedder/Joshua Homme collaboration Mercy Mercy Me. We gave you the exclusive on an unreleased solo track from Modest Mouse frontman Isaac Brock. And now, with the Live From Nowhere Near You : Volume Two compilation just five days from release, Antiquiet brings you another exclusive from the star-studded offering: a demo of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club’s River Styx.
The track that would end up on BRMC’s fantastic 2010 album Beat The Devil’s Tattoo is slightly different beast than the end result we’re familiar with, though this version seems as if it could’ve fit nicely on the band’s Howl release, as-is. Black Rebel drummer Paul Cobb & keyboardist Ryan Bernstein also engineered & assisted mixing the track, which you can hear below.
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club: River Styx (Demo)
River Styx, song 16 on Disc Two of Live From Nowhere Near You : Volume Two follows immediately after a track about a drug dealing Santa like figure (featuring Courtney Taylor and Peter Holmstrom of The Dandy Warhols collaborating with street musician Portland Elvis).
The upcoming three disc compilation arrives on July 19 and features unreleased, rare and new tracks from an exciting number of high-profile musicians. The compilation has been arranged by Kevin Moyer and consists of collaborating street musicians, friends and professional musicians. The majority of the music was recorded in his attic and basement studios, donated spaces, live on the street and in alleyways or under bridges, with the purpose of the album being to tell the story of life on the streets and the roads leading to and from it.
The effort is three CDs combining for over 210 minutes of music. You can get the whole set right now at Greyday Records for only $15, which also includes a digital download version. Preordering is the only way to get all of the tracks on the release (there are a couple of big name artists that won’t appear on the digital only versions). Most of the compilation’s 64 tracks are exclusive to the album and cannot be found anywhere else.
All profits from this release will be donated to Outside In, a non-profit organization in Portland, OR focused on providing aid and counseling to homeless youth. Keep an eye on the organization’s Facebook page, where they will be releasing more details in the coming days. Also, check out the full list of contributors on the album.

Yeah this is when the song really sounded like “Personal Jesus”. Kind of cool to hear the additional layer of vocals in the vereses.
What an interesting project and approach as a fund raiser.
Shermin, set the wayback machine to the year 2001…so I can give a shit about this.
When did BRMC get a chick in the band?
