Kasabian Stab With ‘Switchblade Smiles,’ Plan ‘Velociraptor!’

By Reverend Justito

On the evening of June 7th, UK rockers Kasabian took to the airwaves in their home land to debut the lead single from their highly anticipated fourth album. Switchblade Smiles, the lead track from Velociraptor! no doubt has thrown most Kasabian fans for a loop as the bands massive sing-a-long anthems and trademark hooks have been drowned out by Nine Inch Nails inspired madness.

Lead songwriter Serge Pizzorno recently informed Xfm that for the first single he “wanted a song that sounded like the inner mechanism in a machinegun. I wanted a sound like energy and chaos.”

One listen to Switchblade makes it clear that Pizzorno got exactly what he wanted. Produced by Dan the Automator the Satanic synth sounds and beefy bass lines forces the listener to dance their fanny off while being repeatedly shocked in the stomach with a cattle prod. The song has already set fans lucky enough to get into the bands UK club tour into frenzy. It will be interesting to see what happens as the band is set to headline the massive Isle of Wright Festival this weekend.

Velociraptor! is set for release in the UK on September 19th. US Fans will have to wait for the following day for the album to hit shelves. The album is available now for pre-order with the added perk of an instant MP3 download of Switchblade Smiles.

Velociraptor! Track listing:

Seriously, how many times am I going to listen to this today?

  2. Adrian Garro says:

I dig it, even if it’s a big NIN-ish (like you mentioned). Hopefully this results in the band actually playing some shows in the US

    • Rory says:

I second that. I’ve been waiting far too long to see this band live.

This is a big change up from their last record. I dig it.

  3. Cody T says:

Hopefully the whole album sounds this murky and electro…just like their first album but a little darker. They toured here in 2006 in support of Empire and played a tiny little bar…one of the best gigs ive been to and Adrian and Rory, let me tell you: It was an experience and I sure hope they come again.
