News: Silverchair
Silverchair Put Into “Indefinite Hibernation”
Well this is a bummer. We’ve been anticipating a new album from Silverchair since they whipped out two new songs last year. It’s been too long since 2007′s Young Modern. Unfortunately, however, the band has decided to call it quits, for awhile at least.
In a statement posted today, Silverchair explains:
Back in 2009 we went into the studio to start work on a record. Initially things were going well and as a result we did some shows in 2010 to maintain creative momentum. However, over the months that followed in the studio it became clear to us that we were moving in different directions. Despite our best efforts over the last year or so, it’s become increasingly clear that the spark simply isn’t there between the three of us at the moment.
As a result we’ve decided to put the band into ‘a deep sleep’ while we all do other things that we find more inspiring right now. This means that Silverchair won’t be making music together or playing shows any time soon. It also means that the three of us won’t be working together unless and until it feels right again.
We understand some of you may be disappointed by this news but we really see it as a liberating and positive step for us at this point in our lives.
The split appears to be completely amicable, and we look forward to seeing where the band members go from here, whether or not it eventually leads to a reformation.

This makes me sad. I’ve always loved Silverchair, and finally got to see them in 2008 in San Francisco. I was looking forward to a follow-up to Young Modern, but it appears that that won’t happen.
I’m figuring they’re done forever, as they’re already wayyyy out of the minds of most music fans, so coming back in another 5-6 years would be very anticlimactic, I’d think.
Sigh.
Hmmm, that’s too bad. The two new songs weren’t bad, but the teaser clips they had of some other stuff were downright amazing. I wonder if this means that Daniel Johns will get to releasing the ridiculous amounts of side projects he has piled up.
I’m down for a little tour of his own. Would probably enjoy it immensely.
Guess we’ll have to wait til tomorrow…whenever that is
I don’t care for this at all.
Therefore I refuse to click the ‘Like” button.
Bad & sad news… A truly great band ‘quitting while they’re ahead…’
and two thumbs way up for mr. ardilla for posting this…
They say you learn something new every day. Today I learned that a lot of people whose opinion on music I respect enjoy Silverchair. All I know is that when you are anorexic, the water out of the tap is very hard to drink.
So my heart goes out to y’all for your loss.
That’s a cheap shot :) They were all about 14 when they wrote ‘Frogstomp’. Do you hold ‘Pablo Honey’ against Radiohead?
I’d like to see another Dissociatives album out of Daniel Johns.
bummer we’ll never hear what could have been….
You have got to be kidding?!! I just started to revisit this band again!
to the guys @ Antiquiet- I had sent you a message about this tonight but didn’t even see that you posted this already!
