Eddie Vedder Debuts ‘Longing To Belong’ Video

By Johnny Firecloud

Anticipation is hitting a fever pitch among Pearl Jam fans for Eddie Vedder‘s latest solo effort Ukulele Songs, due May 31 alongside a live DVD from the frontman.

Today’s pre-feast appetizer comes by way of a video for Longing to Belong:

Hi-def footage blends with Super 8 tape (Ed’s video technology of choice) to capture several surfer-daydream shots of a beautiful Hawaiian backdrop as the fragile ballad unfolds, a testament to love’s yearning gravity.

We’ve heard enough of Ukulele Songs to know that there’s great reason to get excited for the album, particularly among those of a more introspectively compassionate nature. If you didn’t like the Into The Wild soundtrack, however, this may not be your cup of tea.

In more Ukulele Songs news, check out the video for You’re True, as well as three other new Vedder tracks.

That soundtrack was a solid piece of work, I’m stoked to hear what this will be like. Slightly off topic: If you were looking to dig into some older Pearl Jam stuff, what would be two essential albums? I know there’s some PJ fans on here…

chris, better late than never i suppose.
most of their catalog is flawless, but if you had to get 2 i would get vs and vitalogy.
yield and no code would be my picks in an alternate reality..

I’m gonna’ play devil’s advocate and say Binaural and Riot Act. The former because listening to the binaural ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binaural_recording ) tracks with noise canceling headphones feels like sitting in the dead center of the studio while the band plays around you. And Mike has the most exciting, distorted guitar squeal of his career. The latter because it’s pretty uptempo for a mourning album; a cross between “muscular art rock” and bristling, protesting punk ethos.

Alternatively (by which I mean “in addition”), pick up their Touring Band 2000 and Live at the Garden DVDs. They inspired this rambling.

Also, Johnny, WordPress wanted me to tell you that 3.1.2 is out.

Thanks man – Bit of an audiophile, so I’ll definitely have to check that out now.

I love binaural as well, but I would start with something else. Binaural is kind of an acquired taste… takes a little while to really appreciate it. I think Yield and VS is a great place to start. Just be prepared to quickly become addicted. Before you know it you’ll own all of their cds…. and dvds… posters… shirts.

Once you really get into yield check out their DVD called single video theory.
