Listen To The Black Keys Cover Buddy Holly: ‘Dearest’
One of the most influential and iconic figures in rock history will be properly honored on June 28 with an all-star release called Rave On Buddy Holly, a 19-track covers record featuring Buddy Holly classics performed by Paul McCartney, Lou Reed, My Morning Jacket, Julian Casablancas (of the Strokes), Cee-Lo and Fiona Apple, among others.
We’ve got a sample track for you, a soft little beauty from The Black Keys called Dearest:
Holly’s tragically brief life of 22 years was cut short on Feb 3, 1959, when he died in a place crash alongside fellow stars Ritchie Valens and JP “Big Bopper” Richardson. On June 28, Fantasy Records and Concord Music Group will release the covers album that celebrates the monumentally significant musician’s too-short career.
McCartney in particular has paid significant tribute to his teen idol, over the years, performing Holly songs ever since the Beatles’ 1964 album Beatles for Sale included a take on Words of Love. Additionally, McCartney produced, hosted, and starred in a 1985 documentary called The Real Buddy Holly Story.

Good news, indeed. Still amazes me how much the man changed the way shit was done in such a short time. Randy Rhodes did it too. I drive myself crazy asking what ifs about them both.
Im really looking forward to She & Him and McCartney’s covers
Wow, what a lineup! Wait… Kid Rock?!
There’s a typo in plane crash.
At last! I’ve got something to look forward to.
