News:  Pearl Jam

Pearl Jam Tease ‘PJ20′ With Unreleased Early Video

By Johnny Firecloud

Pearl Jam is gearing up for one hell of a 20th anniversary Summer, having already reissued their first three albums with enough bells and whistles to make even the most hardcore fans lose their almighty shit. Now, with the news of their heavily-rumored flyaway weekend celebration due any day now, and Cameron Crowe’s news that his retrospective film on the band’s career is hitting theaters in September, excitement is at a fever pitch for the nostalgiafest we’re already knee deep in.

Check out the video below, which shows rare footage of a very young Pearl Jam discussing their name change from Mookie Blaylock to the seminal synonym it is today:

Mookie>>>PJ from Pearl Jam on Vimeo.

“Pearl Jam Fans,” the message begins, “It all started around 20 years ago. First there was Mookie Blaylock. Then there was… The outermost layer of onion is peeled back here to give you a little glimpse into Pearl Jam Twenty. Watch it. Share it. Spread the word…. 2011 is YOUR year.”

Keep an eye on Pearl Jam’s official site. Get ready. Oh, and the first person you see in that video above? Layne Staley of Alice in Chains. Also, if you’re still in the video-watching mood, check out Chris Cornell’s take on Better Man last night in concert.
