News:  Sade

Listen As Sade Collaborates With Jay-Z

By Steven Anthony

Sade’s last LP Soldier of Love came and went last year without a huge impact on the charts or on radio, but was received well by most fans and critics. One of the highlights of the album, The Moon And the Sky, was re-recorded for the upcoming Ultimate Collection. Featuring Jay-Z, the song marks the first time that Sade has recorded a collaboration with another artist.

Removing almost all the guitar and string arrangements, the new version of the track is much darker, the lyrics sounding even more heartbroken than before. With the guitar stripped out, Sade’s smoky voice takes the spotlight, effortlessly gliding over the backing track.

About halfway through the song, Jay-Z steps up to the mic to add a few bars. The drum and bass oriented spin on the track works well with Jay-Z layered on top, adding a male perspective to the lyrics about giving up on a past relationship that was in an apparent rough patch.

The Ultimate Collection comes out early May. In June the band is set to hit the road for the first time in a decade, with John Legend joining them for the entire trek.
