News: SXSW 2011
Reporting From The SXSW Frontlines…
We’re at halftime more or less here in Austin for SXSW 2011 music week, and I just wanted to round up our coverage and plans for anyone following along.
On Wednesday, we taped the public debut of the Third Man Records Rolling Record store, featuring performances by Jack White himself, and Seasick Steve.
Then we got picked up in the Foo Fighters’ White Limo to preview their new album Wasting Light. We’ll be checking out their new documentary Back & Forth in an hour, and both will get a Johnny Firecloud writeup early next week if not sooner.
Wednesday night we snuck into La Zona Rosa to catch The Black Angels followed by one of the best sets Queens Of The Stone Age have ever delivered unto us. Check out the writeup and photo gallery here.
Yesterday was a bit of a wildcard day, checking out a little bit of everything, but the highlights for us came late in the evening when Devotchka and The Cold War Kids rocked Lustre Pearl down by the waterfront.
Today, after the Foo Fighters doc, we’ve got The Kills at the Spin Magazine Party and Liam Finn at Lustre Pearl high up on our to-do list.
Tomorrow, of course, is our big party featuring Third Man Records’ The Greenhornes. Full details on that below. For set times and last minute updates, scan the QR code on any poster or flyer. That will lead you to a special page we’re keeping updated with any developments (no surprises yet), along with some exclusive MP3 downloads from some of the bands playing our show. There’s a great track from The Silent Comedy in there, so get that smartphone out and go Voltron hunting.
You can also get a music download via Paul’s Austin Mixtape, courtesy of the marketing campaign for Universal Pictures’ Paul, from the Superbad guys, starring the Shaun Of The Dead guys, in theaters today:

We’re running a classy soirée here with the help of Austin’s own Knuckle Rumbler and the other sites in the Axis. We’ve got our 13 acts spread across two stages, so each band is going to get a healthy set, and you won’t have to deal with downtime. We’ll even have free breakfast tacos (courtesy of Taco Cabana) and free Sweet Leaf Tea while supplies last.
