News:  Pearl Jam

Pearl Jam Plan New Album, Solo Projects

By Kyle McVeigh

To say Pearl Jam is having a busy 2011 is an understatement to end all understatements. They’ve already released a live album, Live On Ten Legs (read our review here), and the reissue of Vs./Vitalogy will hit shelves in a little over week. Not to mention a new book, a documentary, a festival they’re throwing themselves and multiple side projects, Pearl Jam have added another item to their overflowing plate: a new album.

Bassist Jeff Ament recently told Billboard.com that work has already begun on their 10th studio release. “We did a whole bunch of demos and everybody’s got a disc of 25 (songs) right now. April will be the time where we get together and learn to play all these demos and figure out which 12-15 of them float to the top. Hopefully we can get something done this year.”

Ament goes on to say that celebrating the band’s 20th anniversary has inspired them to look to the future. “There’s been so much focus on the past that I think all of us are really excited to make a new record and have something to look forward to because we’ve been digging in the boxes in our basement a lot the last year or so.”

We’ve already told you about frontman Eddie Vedder’s upcoming solo album (listen to the first track off the record), but Ament himself is currently touring with his new band Tres Mts. which will be making a stop at SXSW this week. How work on a new Pearl Jam album will affect work on the new Soundgarden album (with Matt Cameron being the drummer for both bands) is unclear, but no matter. In a year where we could potentially get new albums from Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and a multitude of other awesome artists, 2011 is shaping to be a year that will kick all our asses, musically speaking.

Stoked doesn’t even begin to describe our feeling about that.

A new Foo Fighters, Beastie Boys, Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam! I feel like I just got in a time machine back to 1994, and oh yes, I LIKE IT!!!!

  4. Elijah's Rain says:

It does feel like the 90′s with all these bands having albums out!

A ‘grunge’ revival? Bring it on! So glad to see bands I grew up listening to are still showing the new guys how it’s done…

Gonna be a great year with all the PJ stuff, but I wouldn’t hold your breath for the new album to drop by Christmas, it will be a 2012 release, no way it comes out this year.

was thinking the other day about a thought that may be a downer, but I will share it with AQ anyway. I am 38 and my daughter is 20 months, and I started thinking about what bands I will be able to take her to see in 10 years. With the state of music today it will be difficult to find a show to take her to in 10 years. Here’s to hoping Pearl Jam is still kicking ass and taking names in their 50′s. As of now, I cannot even begin to think who will be around besides PJ.

Now go stand next to a waterfall or your dryer, and take in some negative ions.

Dunno, I really hope its epic, but the survey says no. Almost all of their albums have sucked, guys. You only remember Ten, Vs., Viatalogy, Yield, and maybe Binaural. What about No Code, half of Backspacer, Riot Act, Lost Dogs Pt. 2,…. They all ate dicks. So I’ve got my fingers crossed that this doesn’t come out as shit.
