New From Arctic Monkeys: ‘Brick By Brick’
By Johnny Firecloud
Friday, March 4, 2011
Well, this is quite… British.
Arctic Monkeys have dropped the video for a new track, Brick By Brick, with what sounds like drummer Matt Helders singing lead. Check it out below:
This sure as hell wouldn’t have fit on Humbug. Maybe My Favourite Worst Nightmare, but… not really. This one’s an odd bird, and despite the hot little tempo shift halfway through I can’t say it stands tall with their previous work.
It’s considerably less appealing than what we heard at the Queens of the Stone Age Brian O’Connor Benefit last August, where Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner debuted new material with Miles Kane of The Little Flames for a project called The Last Shadow Puppets.
Dig into what the boys are up to these days at their official site.

yeah just meh. humbug really grew on me, didn’t care for it much at first for some reason.
i felt the same way. i liked humbug more and more with every listen. this track seems to have shades of some 60’s brit pop and dare i say even some oasis overtones in the chorus? either way, i dig it. glad to hear they’re still moving
as am I. and for some reason I crave tea and/or crumpets

I think they need to stop what they are doing and wait until Mr. Homme is available. This sounds like it needs his help.
background vocals on the verses kinda sound like josh. to me anyway. wasn’t looking for it, but jumped out at me.
I feel like no one’s really giving this a chance. I dig it man. I feel like its a mistake for people to go into this and hope it sounds like humbug or like any previous Arctic Monkeys stuff for that matter. It doesn’t have that immediate power of crying lightning, sure, but this sounds weird and interesting to me. It’s definitely a departure for them and I’m digging it. I’m excited to see what weird new places they go to. And for those of you that say josh needs to get involved, you can’t hear the qotsa influence all over this? Everything from the background vocals to the guitar solo’s tone sound qotsa-ish. This is gonna take a while to settle in, but I think you naysayers may feel differently with a little time.
And Johnny, I’m pretty sure that’s still Alex Turner singing lead, I think you should double check that.
wtf was that?
The chorus ruins an otherwise enjoyable song!
Sounds like they have taken a step back since Humbug with this one. Hope this is the start of something big for these guys. I’ve been craving new music from them for some time now.
YES! I LOVE IT. Sooo much amazing new music.
The Strokes put out a new video too, did anyone see it? It’s at http://new.thestrokes.com/
I don’t mind it, some parts remind me of oasis though…Humbug will be hard to follow

I love the song!
This song is fucking terrible.
Agree with comments about Humbug. It had a compressed sound that was Homme all the way. It took work on my part to give the songs a chance to come alive and over time the songs did just that.
OTOH, this song is not good and I dont imagine it will grow on me over time. Its pretty lame.
