News:  Nine Inch Nails

Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross Win Oscar For ‘The Social Network’

By Fernando Scoczynski Filho

It’s a little hard to believe just how far Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor has come. On his very first job scoring a movie, for David Fincher’s The Social Network, he and Atticus Ross won an Academy Award for Best Original Score. Even though they were the critics’ favorite choice for the award, the win was undoubtedly still a surprise to the scoring freshman:

The Oscar win comes following a series of awards won by Trent & Atticus (such as the Golden Globes), and we admit to being unsure whether or not the Academy would pussy out and award Hans Zimmer instead. We agree with the Oscars on this occasion, as we believe that The Social Network‘s score is not only the best amongst the nominees, but a work strong enough to hold its own when compared to NIN’s body of work. We look forward to Trent’s upcoming score for David Fincher’s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, and hope this is a sign of more great music to come in the future.

Now, stop for a second and think to yourself, this guy won an Oscar:

This just goes to show that all us little NIN freaks were right all along. :-)

  2. Let’s face it: Trent Reznor is just plain old better than you or I or anyone else in the world. Is there NOTHING this guy can’t succeed at? It’s almost as if he makes ALL the genius moves that are available to an artist and it leaves the rest of the world less to work with. The guy’s so talented, it’s a sin. He’s always made the right decision, artistically, and never loss and OUNCE of what he started with. He never entirely jumped his shark. He’s not a genius woefully under-appreciated in his own lifetime- although this entitles us all to hate him just a little bit- he’s actually recognized within his lifetime, and not many years after his death. And you can’t help but like the guy, because he’s the best at what he does, was the first person to do it, the only one to do it, and the only one who knows how he’s done it..

Sadly enough, THAT guy didn’t win an oscar. That guy is long gone, and we’ll never see him again. I’m sure at some point more music will be released under the name Nine Inch Nails, but once a man gets rich, famous, old, pudgy, married and has a kid… well, things change. I’ll always be a fan, but its kind of sad that we’ll never see that visceral, intense rock n roll experience ever again.

I totally thought the academy would puss out. This is great news :-)

    I for one was estatic!

  6. I whooped when their names were announced; I, too, had a sick feeling for a moment that the Academy would hand it over to Hans Zimmer.
