Revived Seattle rockers Soundgarden are planning to record a new album “very soon,” according to a post on the band’s official site. Here’s a pic of the band in the studio to show that they’re not just blowing (very, very exciting) smoke up our asses:

Our goal for 2011 – Let’s Make A Record
Over the past few months, we’ve been busy jamming, writing and hanging out together – exploring the creative aspect of being Soundgarden. It feels great. We have some cool new songs that we are going to record very soon. Thank you for all of the support!
Loudest of Love,
Ben, Chris , Kim and Matt
The most recent “new” Soundgarden material to see the light of day was the track Black Rain, which was recorded during the Badmotorfinger sessions, but kept under wraps until last August. The track later appeared on the band’s greatest hits compilation Telephantasm: A Retrospective. Listen below:
Is it just me, or is this shaping up to be the best week ever in music news? And it’s only Tuesday…

They’ve been writing and recording. I see this as a mixing stage, and post production. There’s no doubt in my mind that this will melt minds.
Soundgarden is the greatest American rock band ever. This whole reunion/new album makes me very nervous. I reaaally hope it comes out sounding natural and amazing.
i don’t know about ”the greatest american rock band ever”..the doors & the stooges have that covered..but the statement about it making you nervous, i agree. here’s a band that had such a powerful sound..one can only hope they can evolve without shitting on themselves.
The Stooges? Check it out, our singer doesn’t wear a shirt.
I don’t think this qualifies them as the greatest American rock band ever.
If you think Soundgarden is a better band than the Stooges you can blow me.
amen brother.
And for the nitpicking crowd saying that the word “album” isn’t mentioned anywhere, read the title of the official post: “Our goal for 2011 – Let’s Make A Record”. Case closed.
Ummmm….Fernando…..The word “album” is in the title of the article above. Just sayin’….
Never mind…..my bad, Fernando. I misread your comment. Sorry. :)

To make this the best week ever, Pearl Jam just needs to top it off with PJ20 Festival line-up and/or announce that Backspacer B-Side album McCready mentioned awhile back.
Yeah, this almost trumps the QOTSA tour announcement…… I don’t know if Soundgarden are the best American Rock band ever, but they damn sure are on a short list for that distinction.
i rather me some queens.
Is Rock music experiencing an uprising all of sudden or is just me?! YES !!!
