News: Sabrosa Purr
Introducing Sabrosa Purr
What lies between the sonic worlds of Prince, Pink Floyd & T-Rex and glam, punk, shoegaze and hip thrust/head bang are the no-apologies, psychedelic-chic, metallic stoner dreamscapes evoked by that which is called Sabrosa Purr.
The band was founded by native Floridian Will Love (Guitar/Vox) upon his arrival to California and went through the typical formational growing pains. What was originally a three-piece is now rounded and fleshed out with Jeff Mendel (Guitar), Angie Mattson (Bass), and Mahsa Zargaran (Drums).
Can you give up the ghost on the comfort of defining genres and bands in a box? Work on that because this foursome of eclectic (Mahsa, born and raised in Tehran, never even heard of The Beatles until she came to the Unites States) has combined to become a combustible, shiny diamond barely beneath the skin of LA’s music scene.
Listening to their two self-produced EPs Volaras and Music From The Violet Room, and one full album To the Crickets And The Ghosts produced by Tracy Chrisholm (Stone Temple Pilots, Scott Weiland) takes the mind on multiple trips of reference as Will Love’s vocals bend from pliant, boy/man coos to eye-watering, nu-metal howls that would earn Kurt Cobain’s rage of approval. Guitar driven, ethereal, haunting, bombastic, and occasionally quiet, Sabrosa Purr has toured with 30 Seconds To Mars and made themselves comfortably known on some of Los Angeles’ most notorious/notable stages/launch pads out of obscurity: The Roxy, The Viper Room and Spaceland.
Something slick and slithery this way comes in Suckerpunch Kiss, with its recessed vocals and serpentine guitar. If you’re looking to find the sex, swagger, and dirty strut that rock and roll is really all about, see Fashion Kills and The Lovely People for further.

Very very cool. Is it just me or does that guy bear more than a passing resemblance to Anthony Keidis?? So are there two girls in the band or just one? Hmmm, guess I’ll have to go……to the cloud!

I like their style, but there’s something missing here. They’re not too bad though.
Sabrosa Purr is one of the best bands out. Period.
