News: The Black Keys
Black Keys Set Up Shop In Nashville, Recording In March
In a recent interview with Cleveland.com, The Black Keys revealed some pretty interesting details on their plans for 2011 – including a new album.
A big part of these plans is the fact that the blues duo moved out of their native Akron, Ohio to Nashville, Tennessee. Frontman Dan Auerbach has built a recording studio since their arrival, and according to the article, it’s where the Keys plan to start recording their next album in March.
Following the success of last year’s fantastic Brothers, Dan spoke about whether the Nashville setting would influence the sound of the new record: ”I really don’t know, honestly. I’m still listening to the same weird shit and searching for different sounds, same as I’ve always done. All that stuff influences me, probably more than my surroundings. I’m good at just living in my own little world. That’s probably why it’s easy for me to go from one town to another, because I put my headphones on and it really doesn’t matter where I am.”
The article also mentions the apparent likelihood that the record will see a release out as soon as this fall. Drummer Patrick Carney offered a perplexing perspective:
“I’m really excited about recording,” he explained. “When you spend a year on tour, it’s all about performing, which is creative in its own way, I guess. But you don’t have a real creative outlet, like making a record. It puts Dan and me in a weird spot, mentally. We’ll probably spend more time on the next record than we have in a long time. We’ll see what happens. Hopefully, people are still into it.”
The Black Keys are also scheduled to play this year’s Bonnaroo. Meanwhile, check out their performance of Howlin’ For You on Conan:

the good news doesnt stop. it just keeps pouring in
Any word on whether they’ll reschedule their tour of Australia? For those who don’t know, on January 17, they cancelled a 7-stop festival tour with several scheduled side shows just 3 days before the first gig. Left a truck load of fans, myself included, absolutely stunned and disappointed.
Not too bash on them…but it seems like they should have cited “we want to make a new record and play all the major US festivals” instead of “exhaustion” as their cause for cancelling those dates.
haha they have to make it sound like they’re starving, man..haha them be the rules!
That really made me lose some respect for these guys when I first heard about it. You don’t plan a tour and then back out of a bunch of shows because you’re too tired, that’s bullshit. They knew what they got into when they helped plan the tour at the beginning, man up and finish it. What was really crappy in my opinion is that the statement they released on their website about cancelling the shows wasn’t even written by them, it was in the 3rd person. Pretty disrespectful. They should’ve been pouring their hearts out asking for forgiveness. Exhaustion is never an excuse to cancel shows, everybody gets tired on tour, an emergency or medical condition are the only valid excuses.
tribute to conans hairstyle maybeh?
Was really excited by the headline thinking that jack white was somehow involved, even if these guys seemed rather outwardly ambivalent to his music. Still some awesome news, carney is too modest.
I wouldn’t put it outside the realm of possibilities. In fact, the potential is a little bit terrifying, in the very best of ways.
Love you, Fernando ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQsjAbZDx-4 ), for bringing such great news!
Ive seen these guys 4 times since 2003, and while the last 2 albums were good i personally was disappointed in them. They are amazing live but i have to say i too have lost a lil respect, i agree with everything Cam said, you know what you signed up for,if you play music theres always nights where you dont feel like playing cause your tired from your day job but you go out and kill it cause its what you love, i seriously hope this move to Nashville brings them back to that. Remember mowin fuckin lawns and then playin a gig, no probably not cause your polishing a grammy now. The new album will decide whether you are the black keys or the black keys a.d.(after dangermouse).
