Trent Reznor Opens Up To Tavis Smiley

Trent Reznor has been doing a bit of publicity following the rather successful release of The Social Network, the movie for which he created the original score with Atticus Ross. One of the most interesting interviews so far happened yesterday, on Tavis Smiley’s talk show, where Trent opened up to talk not only about his work on the score (and its recent Golden Globes nomination), but also his past with Nine Inch Nails, and how sobriety has affected his work. Since the movie’s already cleaning up awards, it looks like Trent still has a good amount of press on the way. Though an Oscar nod would be interesting, we’re not sure if that’s possible, given how two of the tracks on the score were previously written for a NIN album (Ghosts I-IV), which is the same reason why Jonny Greenwood was not nominated for his excellent There Will Be Blood soundtrack. While most of us don’t really care about these awards, it’s still nice to see one of our favorite musicians up there – and, as the NIN frontman said it himself, movie awards have managed to stay a bit more prestigious and relevant than their musical counterparts.
