News: Stone Sour
For years now, Slipknot/Stone Sour front man Corey Taylor has hinted that he would drop a Johnny-Cash-meets-Social-Distortion type of solo record when the time was right. And while there’s still no release date for his solo debut in sight, the Grammy award wining vocalist has offered up a Christmas single that sounds an awful lot like the Man in Black channeled by Mr. Mike Ness.
Written four years ago, X-M@$ is a silly jingle blasting the masses that refuse to let loose during this the most joyous of seasons. With plenty of F-bombs, bouncy guitar lines and Taylor’s signature snarl, this short but sweet charity single should get a chuckle out of Maggots from the United Kingdom to Uruguay.
Taylor recently told Oblioo.com the following about X-M@$: ”I wrote this song in my kitchen one winter, listening to people bitch about the holidays,” Taylor explained. “Personally, I love the holidays, but they seem to bring on severe stress in most people. So, I wrote this in honor of crotchety, drunken bastards who don’t know the difference between a yuletide and a toolshed. Plus, I think it’s funny.”
Taylor’s twisted Chrsitmas jam may be goofy as hell, but it may have to tide fans over for a while. While the band confirmed last week that they will perform on the European Festival circuit next summer (their first shows since the May 2010 death of founding bassist Paul Gray) details on a new Slipknot album vary depending on which masked musician you question. While Taylor has tweeted that it’s too soon to record, drummer Joey Jordison has informed Billboard.com that the band is working on demos for the next record.
X-M@$ is set for release on December 12th. Proceeds from the single will be donated to the UK nonprofit Teenage Cancer Trust.
